Because serious people will not understand jokes. In fact most serious people have never heard of a joke.
If you go and tell a joke to the serious minded people, he will not know how to react, or probably die of shock.

And most of them happens to be the thin curled lipped environmentalist. That talk about global warming every minute. And if they find some extra time, they will complain how much carbon monoxide the human are producing. And how wonderful the electric cars are.
Only forgetting that they themselves are human, and that the electric car charges up using a power plant that produce more green house gas.
